Star Wars Blu Ray Commemorative Figure Sets Episodes IV, V, VI

Original MSRP: 24.99

I seriously thought I had stopped collecting Star Wars toys. The last ones I bought were the Power of the Force which did nothing for me, even though I bought tons of them. Then, the Vintage Collection figures caught my eye last year. I bought Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper which is always mandatory for me. They reside unopened in my basement. A couple of weeks ago I see the announcement on eBay about the Blu Ray release. Then the stores start slashing prices. I buy a couple of more Stormtroopers and another Darth Vader. Then I made the mistake of opening one. Wow. These mofo’s are articulated! And what’s this? Darth Vader’s helmet comes off? All of a sudden I buy the Blu Ray and run across some boxed sets that commemorate the Blu Ray release. They are just repacks but I don’t own any of them aside from Vader. So what better way to get them than by buying the sets? It’s a cheaper way to build up my collection instead of paying $10 a pop. I get twelve for $75 instead of $120.

There is six sets available. One for every episode. I am strictly an episode IV, V and VI guy since that’s what I grew up with. So that’s what I stuck with here. Each episode comes with four figures and a small cardboard movie poster.

Episode IV: A New Hope

R2-D2 has a chrome dome and working periscope feature. To activate this feature, simply rotate his head.

You also get Luke in Tatooine getup and lightsaber. The bottom of his shirt is soft PVC to give way to some leg articulation.

I can never get enough of the good old Stormtrooper. This set comes with a Sandtrooper to add to your army. Accessories include a blaster and a staff.

How about an articulated figure of a creepy old man? OK, he’s not so creepy, he’s actually a cool dude. His name is Obi Wan Kenobi. He comes with soft goods and a lightsaber.

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Ah, finally I have myself a nice Boba Fett figure. He has a cloth scarf, a blaster and a holstered rifle. His back pack is removable.

Leia in Hoth Gear is the smallest of the bunch but she has a really impressive sculpt and articulation. She comes with a little rifle.

This Luke Skywalker in Snowspeeder uniform is one of my favorites. It’s loaded with articulation, highly detailed and has a really cool removable helmet. Accessories include a grappling hook to recreate movie scene and an inactive lightsaber.

This set also provides you with a totally cool Snowtrooper. He’s got a cloth skirt and removable helmet. E-11 blaster is also included of course.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Like Biker Scouts? I do and you get one in this set. Again, highly articulated and detailed. His boots are muddied up! Comes with a little blaster that can be holstered to his ankle.

One of my favorite vintage figures is included here. The Han Solo in Endor gear. As a kid, this was my first action figure with cloth. It was cool then and it’s cooler now that its actually sculpted real well. Comes with a little blaster. “Say hello to my little friend.” (for JoshB)

This version of Luke is what I believe to be the most articulated figure out of the three sets. Sure, some have chest/waist joints, but this guy has everything. He can spread his legs out unlike most other Star Wars figures and he even has a joint on his wrist. It doesn’t just rotate, it swivels. He comes with an active and inactive lightsaber as well as hand cuffs to recreate his capture.

I’ve saved the best for last. At least in my opinion since I love Darth Vader. This is such a cool representation of Darth Vader. I mean they went all out with this guy. He’s articulated, has tons of cloth and a removable helmet. Not only does his helmet come off, it comes off in two pieces! Even the Anakin Skywalker sculpt is done superbly.

So is this set worth getting? Not unless you don’t have these figures and want them. You can save a couple of bucks buying these sets. If you have these, it’s probably not worth it unless you must have the flimsy cardboard mini movie-posters or you are just a completist or absolute Star Wars freak. Hasbro chose what I believe to be the best renditions of these characters available to include in the set. I must go out and buy myself some more Stormtroopers but my wallet is not yet fully operational.

Most impressive.
