Macross
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (超時空要塞マクロス Chō Jikū Yōsai Makurosu) is an anime television series. According to story creator Shoji Kawamori, it depicts "a small love triangle against the backdrop of great battles" during the first Human-alien war. Macross is widely considered a classic, combining giant transforming robots, apocalyptic battles, wartime romance, and victory through the use of various unconventional means, including bubblegum pop music. It features mechanical designs by Kazutaka Miyatake and Kawamori (both of Studio Nue) and character designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto. In addition, Macross created one of the first anime idols Lynn Minmay, turning her voice actress Mari Iijima into an instant celebrity, and launching her musical career. Most of its animation (with edited content and revised dialogue) was adapted outside Japan for the first saga of Robotech. (Wikipedia
Macross 7 (マクロス7) is an anime television series. It is a spin-off of the show The Super Dimension Fortress Macross that takes place many years after the events of the first series following a cast of mostly new characters. The show ran from October 16, 1994 to September 24, 1995 at 11:00 AM, and 49 episodes were aired. Macross 7 is best known for its music, and since the show began airing over a dozen albums have been released by the fictional band Fire Bomber that stars in the show. Macross 7 exists in the official Studio Nue chronology, with story concept by Shoji Kawamori and mechanical designs by Mr. Kawamori and Kazutaka Miyatake.
The story follows the band Fire Bomber, led by Basara Nekki. They inhabit the 37th colonial fleet's main spacecraft, Macross 7 (which the series gains its title from). The ship comes under attack from enemies call Protodeviln from the planet Varauta. Conventional warfare proves costly and ineffective against them, but - borrowing from the original series' roots - the power of Basara's music helps turn the tide of the conflict.
Macross Plus (マクロスプラス) is a four-episode anime OVA and theatrical movie in the Macross series. (1994-1995) Three decades after the great war between the humans and the Zentradi, the U.N. government is developing new technologies to use in their transforming fighter aircraft. Two great pilots, the loose cannon Isamu Alva Dyson and the Zentradi half-breed Guld Goa Bowman, are selected to each test a new aircraft (Shinsei Industries' YF-19 "Alpha One" & General Galaxy's YF-21 "Omega One") for Project Super Nova, to choose the newest successor to the traditional Valkyrie fighter. Their own personal grudges end up disrupting the tests and wreak havok on the program. (Wikipedia)

Arii’s 1/100 scale Regult Battle Pod from the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross TV Series is a great example. Manufactured and designed in 1982 this kit is one of the better kits from the line that builds up to a great representation of our favorite two-legged cannon fodder monster, although not without some minor faults.

This set is bittersweet. The scene where Michel's valk arrives and Ranka starts singing is one of my favorite scenes in all of Macross Frontier. It sends chills down my spine. The set itself is great, but the fact that it only gets used in gerwalk mode really bumms me out.

Let's be fair, the toy is not terrible, it just has one terrible mode.

While it would have been nice to see Max's movie-ver. VF-1S come out in 1/55 scale, this one is equally appreciated, and hearkens (if in appearance only) back to his VF-1A from the series which was white with blue trim (which also has not been make into a 1/55 Valkyrie yet).

This set is still great despite my biggest complaint being the trivial-only odd coloring of the Super FAST Pack.

While Bandai got much right with their re-entry into the transforming, variable fighter market, I am stunned at what they got wrong... I take a look at Alto's VF-25F from the latest installment in the Macross franchise, Macross Frontier.

I wanted you to know that the VF-1D is not just some silly paint variation of an existing design. No, the VF-1D plays an important role in the Macross saga, and the toy designers at Yamato know this and have added in some cool things to the toy because of it.

I’ll come forward and admit that Ichijyo’s coloring scheme and the head were never really favorites of mine, so there is a little prejudice there. But, I cannot say at all that [this] minor issue detracts in any way from the overall quality of the toy. I still love the Takatoku Toys 1/55-scale sets, and this set is no exception.

Even though 19 years have passed since its initial release, this set remains a solid example of quality Japanese toy engineering. Its proportions may not be completely show-accurate- the toys are often lovingly referred to as “chunky monkey”- but the die-cast arrangement, durability, and realistic transformation makes it a standout.
